Kazakhstan Plans National Vote on New Constitution

(MENAFN) Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on Wednesday scheduling a national referendum on March 15 to approve the country’s new constitution.

The referendum poses the question: "Do you adopt the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the draft of which was published in the mass media on February 12, 2026?" according to the decree posted on the presidential website.

At a government meeting on Tuesday, Tokayev described the draft constitution as including “important progressive norms.” He stressed that adopting the new constitution “will give a powerful impetus to the development of Kazakhstan and will help realize the potential of every citizen.”

Tokayev added that the country is moving away from a “super-presidential form of government” toward a presidential republic supported by a strong and influential parliament.
